Happy Birthday card with cricut

I had a day to play with my Cricut and found a wonderful frame on the Pooh and Friends cartridge that I had not seen before.  It is the oval of flowers in my card above.  I love it!  For the base paper of the card, I used Making Memories narrow stripe paper from the Maddi collection. The floral frame was cut from yellow cardstock.  The Happy Birthday is printed on white cardstock and it is matted on Making Memories floral paper--also from the Maddi collection.  The hot pink mini brads at the center of each flower are also from Making Memories wc brite.  White cardstock is also behind the flower frame.  I loved this frame so much, that I made a number of cards including a really neat card for Mother's day.  I don't know how I missed this neat frame before, but I love it!

This week's project--use scraps and recycled paper to make a card

This week, I decided to make some cards using scraps of paper that I had.  I also had a darling card that was given to me with a gift card.  I loved the paper and wanted to use it in a cheerful card.  This is the result.  The deep yellow paper with flowers use to be the card for the gift card.  I had to cover the fold, so I used white cardstock and ribbon to cover it.  The flower in the center was made from white cardstock and a silk flower from a card that failed.  The white cardstock that is used as a mat for the recycled card was also from the failed card.  The purple paper was leftover from a scrapbook page that I made.  I was really surprised, but I think this card turned out really cheerful and cute.

This next card was also made from scraps.  The brown paper and pink paper were both used in a scrapbook page that I made.  I happened to have cut out 3 extra flowers, so I just needed to cut out 2 more flowers to finish the card.  The flower brads were the only items that were not scraps. This is a fun card.

Challenge of the week--make a card for a blind artist

WOW!  Did I ever get a challenge this week!  I received an e-mail from a co-worker that says:  "My friend is an artist (painting, drawing, etc) and just got accepted into the Uof U Masters of Fine Art program. We are having a party for him congratulating him for it.

He is almost blind so he can feel cut outs or things you would paste on it as dimensional items. (i.e. pallet, brushes, easels or frames, whatever for such ideas). If you would do some items or objects inside as well, I know the cost would be more, but I thought it would be good, since he feels a lot of what he can not see. He does not do brail. He can see 6-7% out of one eye, and uses a strong magnifying glass to read and do his paintings or drawings.
I will love what ever you come up with I am sure, because I really like what you design, or cut out, or do to make your cards so great. I do not care the cost as much as something different and nice, because I am going to be with a bunch of high brow people at the party, and want to stand out from them a bit if you can work wonders for me on that front via your card."

OH MY STARS!!!  How do I make a classy card for a blind person?  My biggest thought was to be sure it has different textures that he can feel.  So, I got a white 5 1/2" x 5 1/2 " card.  It came with a texture of raised retro squares on it.  Then I added a 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" piece of University of Utah designer paper and matted it on black cardstock.  Then I added a rectangle of white cardstock that is matted on black cardstock.  Across the white cardstock is a raised gold colored sticker that says: Congratulations.  In each corner of the designer paper is a square gold brad.  When the card is opened, I placed a hand-drawn artist palette in tan cardstock.  I punched out the whole with a 1" circle Making Memories hole punch.  For the colors on the palette, I put 1/2" raised foam stickers in red, orange, yellow, lime green, blue, and purple.  I added a sticker of a watercolor paint brush to top off the palette.
I sure hope my friend likes it and that his friend likes it. I have been racking my brain trying to think of what I could do. I think it turned out to look pretty classy for the "high brow people at the party" and I hope it stands out.

Baseball Blanket and Burp

On March 3rd, I mentioned that I was working on finishing the crochet trim on the baby burp for a baseball themed blanket and burp.  Well, I finished it and now have it posted on my etsy site.  I really like how it turned out.

A Menopause Card!

A Menopause Card!
I work with a number of women who are going through “the change” and would love a card to “help” them through it. So, as I was thumbing through a scrapbook/card idea book, I found this fun idea on page 56. The book is called “Get Real Greetings” by Jessica Strawser.  The card is made with flower designer paper on the top half of the card and the bottom half has matching pink designer paper.  The center has a band of white cardstock across the seams.  Across the flower paper are black dot letter stickers that say: You are so.  On the white cardstock is colored metal letters that are attached with white brads.  The letters say:  HOT.  (You are so HOT)  When the card is opened, it says:  Good luck on your menopause.  I have had a number of friends get a good chuckle when they see the card.

New cards

Like I mentioned in my last post, I want to make some more window cards. So I started working on a few wedding cards. They turned out to look very classy. I’m happy with them. When they are opened, the heart or rose shows on the inside of the card. I’m thinking of making more of these and selling them in my etsy store as a set of wedding cards. Tell me what you think.

I also made more cards that are not the window cards. I thought you might want to see a few of them too.  The pink card has a rocking horse that is dry embossed at the center of the card.  The white mats are actually from a nice graduation announcement that was sent to me.  I sent the graduate a card then used the blank white paper for this card since I liked the texture on it.  For the lime green card, I had some extra ribbon from a sewing project that I wanted to use.  I love how it stands out on the card.

My projects

Today I added 2 more items to my etsy store. I added another all-occasion card set and I also added a baby burp set.  I attached the photos in this blog.  I really like the card set and I can't choose, but I really like the handprint burp and the star burp.  They are both so cute!  It's amazing that such a cute thing is used to clean up baby spit-up.

I am now working on making more cards. I love to make cards with the window at the top so that it also shows the sticker or embellishment when the card is opened. A lot of people like these cards because then they don't have to write as much on the inside of the card.  I'm excited to make some Spring and Easter cards.  I probably won't put them on my etsy store, but I'm also going to begin making  Mother's Day and Father's Day cards to put on Etsy.  I'm still trying to decide if I will put them as part of a set or sell them individually.  Let me know what you think.

I am also working on crocheting the trim on a darling flannel baby blanket and burp. It is a baseball theme design on the flannel. I will add the photo in my next blog. I have crocheted the blanket and I am finishing up on the baby burp.

Many people have asked me why I say "Oh my stars". Well, it is great in place of a cuss word, an expletive, or anytime that I am shocked, dismayed or just don't know that to say. I have been saying it for over 25 years and it has kind of become my trademark.
